The Rennes arsenal provided a living for thousands of workers and their families. An arsenal is no ordinary business; it is a place of manufacture of weapons, ammunition and support materials, subordinated to the rhythm of armed conflicts. A human paradox that is not always easy to assume for employees with real know-how. This working class has known extreme working conditions, generating internal conflicts, difficult to express outside the establishment placed under the seal of military secrecy.taire.
This work is not intended to be a historical document, in the academic sense of the term, but a popular one. It is the result of the Mémoire Arsenal-Courrouze association. Retired workers, employees, technicians and engineers have carried out patient research to write their history. This unique industrial saga has left a lasting mark on the landscape of Rennes and Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande. On the surface of the territory, these reminiscent traces are at the heart of the development of the new district of Courrouze proposed by the town-planning architects Bernardo Secchi and Paola Viganò.iganò.
