For the fourth edition of the ViaSilva Photographic Encounters, Les ailes de Caïus called on Alessia Rollo, photographer in residence in 2020. For this very special year, the Italian photographer has looked into the question of balance, which is at the very heart of the peri-urban project that is ViaSilva, a territory in which two worlds come together, caught in a loop of permanent transformation, involving the sustainable and the ephemeral, a universe where past, present and future intermingle constantly.
Alessia Rollo thus turns the territory of ViaSilva into a huge open-air playroom. She laughs at the finds she makes on the edge of construction sites, picking up here and there worthless trinkets, garbage and flowers that grow between the gravel and the excavators. This booty, little unsuspected nuggets, the artist stages. Like the machines that assemble the buildings of the future ViaSilva eco-district day after day, it collects and assembles these materials found during the walks to in turn build heterogeneous and colorful structures. She photographs these sculptures and then leaves them there, like a child building her sand castle by the sea. Ephemeral, these odds and ends monuments will not last long, in contact with the work that will replace them with new creations.
